Chantal Belzberg, founder of OneFamily, has been awarded the Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement for 5786 in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to Israeli society. The honor, announced by Education Minister Yoav Kisch, acknowledges her decades of work supporting bereaved families and wounded individuals affected by terror and war.
Established in 2001 following the Sbarro restaurant bombing in Jerusalem, OneFamily began after Belzberg and her family chose to donate funds from their daughter's canceled bat mitzvah celebration to victims' families. The organization has since grown into a national support network assisting more than 20,000 people, offering comprehensive emotional, social, and financial care to parents, siblings, widows, widowers, orphans, and the wounded.
Since October 7, 2023, OneFamily has rapidly expanded its emergency response and long-term rehabilitation efforts to meet surging needs across the country. The Israel Prize committee highlighted Belzberg's role in strengthening Israel's social resilience and transforming personal tragedy into a lasting framework of compassion and national responsibility.
