Bennett says Netanyahu 'tearing the State of Israel apart,' vows to replace him

Former prime minister Naftali Bennett has vowed to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring that Netanyahu 'needs to go home' after three decades in politics. Bennett accused him of tearing the State of Israel apart through divisive legislation, efforts to formalize exemptions from military service for the ultra Orthodox community, and prioritizing political survival over national unity during wartime.

While pledging not to serve under Netanyahu, Bennett stopped short of fully ruling him out as a future coalition partner, setting conditions that include accepting responsibility for the failures surrounding the October 7 attack and ending funding tied to military service exemptions. He also signaled openness to working with other political figures if they align with his principles, though he firmly excluded National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir from any government he would lead.

Bennett positioned himself as the only candidate capable of leading the anti Netanyahu bloc in upcoming elections, citing his previous success in unseating the premier in 2021. He called for greater integration of the ultra Orthodox community into military and workforce service, arguing that the government has weakened national security by failing to address a significant troop shortage. Despite trailing in some polls, Bennett expressed confidence that his bloc could secure a parliamentary majority and hinted at potential political realignments ahead of the vote.
