A missile was launched from Yemen toward southern Israel on Saturday morning, marking the first such attack by the Iran-backed Houthi movement since the war began on February 28. The Israeli military confirmed that air defense systems were activated to intercept the projectile after it was identified heading toward Israeli territory.
Sirens sounded across Beersheba and surrounding communities in the Negev, with residents instructed to follow Home Front Command guidelines. A preliminary warning was also issued about the possibility of alerts in Eilat.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or direct impacts. The Houthis, based in Yemen and backed by Iran, have previously threatened to target Israel in coordination with other regional allies, but this was the first confirmed missile launch toward Israel since the start of the war.
