A female journalist holding a United States passport was kidnapped in Baghdad on Tuesday by unidentified assailants, according to two police sources. She was reportedly taken by force by four men in civilian clothing who placed her in a vehicle and fled the scene.
Iraq’s interior ministry said one suspect has been arrested and that security forces are continuing efforts to secure her release. Authorities are actively pursuing the vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction, focusing their search in eastern Baghdad where the kidnappers were reportedly headed.
The United States State Department has not yet commented on the incident. The kidnapping follows previous cases involving foreign nationals in Iraq, including the abduction of an Israeli-Russian graduate student in 2023 who was later released in 2025.
