A court in Berlin sentenced a 30-year-old man to three years and nine months in prison for illegally accessing weapons and posting content in support of the Hezbollah organization. The ruling was based on social media videos recorded during a 2023 trip to Lebanon, where he was seen handling rifles and anti-tank missiles and participating in shooting exercises.
Judges found that he also distributed propaganda videos and displayed Hezbollah symbols such as flags and scarves online. However, the court determined that he had not received formal weapons training and described his handling of the arms as partly amateurish.
The defendant was acquitted of separate charges alleging that he had fought for Hezbollah or was an official member of the group. The court concluded that his previous claims of battlefield involvement were fabricated to impress friends. Germany banned Hezbollah in 2020, while the European Union designates only the group's military wing as a terrorist organization.
