The Palestinian Football Association has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after the International Federation of Association Football declined to sanction Israel over clubs based in the West Bank. The global governing body said it would not take action against the Israel Football Association, citing the unresolved legal status of the territory under international law. Palestinian officials argue that Israeli clubs located in the West Bank should not participate in Israeli domestic leagues.

Palestinian Football Association vice president Susan Shalabi said the appeal was filed on April 20 after years of unsuccessful efforts within the sport’s governing structures. She described the decision as unjust and said the association would continue pursuing the case through all available legal channels.

The dispute unfolded amid visa problems affecting members of the Palestinian delegation traveling to Canada for the federation’s congress. Shalabi said several officials, including the association’s president and legal counsel, initially faced delays, with some unable to attend.

Shalabi also highlighted the severe impact of the conflict on football in Gaza, saying facilities have been destroyed and many players, including children, have been killed. Professional competitions are suspended, and the association is attempting to sustain the sport through grassroots and youth activities.
