A reserve soldier opened fire on a powered paraglider that entered the airspace above a community in eastern Gush Etzion on Saturday morning, suspecting a possible airborne terrorist infiltration. The aircraft was spotted near Pnei Kedem, and the soldier used his personal weapon to engage it. No injuries or damage were reported, and the paraglider left the area.
A preliminary investigation found that the paraglider had taken off from the Jordan Valley after coordinating the flight in advance with military authorities. However, during the flight, the pilot deviated from the approved route and entered airspace under the responsibility of a different brigade in the Judea and Samaria Division, where he was identified as a potential hostile threat.
Military officials said the aircraft's deviation from its designated airspace led to the incident, which remains under investigation.
