Senator Lindsey Graham urged President Donald Trump to change course on Iran after Tehran rejected a United States proposal aimed at ending the war. While acknowledging Trump’s efforts to pursue diplomacy, Graham argued that Iran’s attacks on international shipping and Middle Eastern allies, along with what he called an unacceptable response to Washington’s proposal, warrant a shift in strategy.
Graham suggested reconsidering a postponed military operation in the Strait of Hormuz and insisted that any negotiated settlement must include the complete dismantling of Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities. He warned that anything short of full destruction of those capabilities would resemble the earlier nuclear agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
Iranian media confirmed that Tehran rejected the United States proposal, describing it as equivalent to surrendering to Trump’s excessive demands. A senior Iranian official said the country’s negotiating position was based solely on its own rights and dismissed Trump’s rejection of Iran’s response as irrelevant.
