Hungary's new Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, has granted veto power to four key ministers in his newly formed center-right government following their parliamentary confirmation and swearing-in. The ministers overseeing health, justice, education, and finance will be able to block government decisions, a move Magyar said reflects the complexity and importance of their portfolios in the coming term.
The cabinet formation was completed on the same day as the oath ceremony, marking the official start of Magyar’s administration. He emphasized that these ministries face particularly demanding challenges in the upcoming government cycle.
Meanwhile, the European Union agreed to impose sanctions on several Israeli settlers accused of committing acts of violence against Palestinians. Unlike previous measures, the updated sanctions focus more heavily on institutions and financial entities, including the major settlement organization Amana, which now faces asset freezes and transaction bans that could hinder its financial operations.
