Compressed natural gas prices in Delhi and surrounding areas have been raised again, marking the second increase within 48 hours. Indraprastha Gas Limited increased rates by 1 rupee per kilogram from Sunday morning, taking the price in Delhi to 80.09 rupees per kilogram for the first time. This follows a 2 rupees per kilogram hike announced on Friday, adding to the burden on private vehicle owners, taxi drivers and public transport users.
The latest revision comes shortly after petrol and diesel prices were also increased by around 3 rupees per litre in the national capital. Petrol in Delhi now costs 97.77 rupees per litre, while diesel is priced at 90.67 rupees per litre. However, domestic piped natural gas prices remain unchanged since April 1, 2026.
The consecutive hikes come amid rising global energy prices driven by tensions in the Middle East and disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas trade. Despite international crude oil prices jumping from about 70 dollars to over 100 dollars per barrel, fuel price increases in India have remained relatively modest compared to many other countries.
