Iran's soccer federation president said the national team will move its World Cup base camp from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, citing approval from the International Federation of Association Football. The change comes less than three weeks before the tournament begins and follows months of tension linked to the ongoing military conflict between Iran and the United States.
Iran is scheduled to play group-stage matches in Southern California and Seattle. The team had previously planned to train at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, where preparations and security coordination were already underway. However, Iranian officials raised concerns about visas and safety, prompting discussions with tournament organizers about relocating the base.
By establishing camp in Tijuana, near the border with the United States, Iranian officials say travel to matches in Los Angeles will be shorter and logistical issues, particularly visa complications for staff and officials, will be eased. While matches will still take place in the United States as scheduled, the relocation is intended to address diplomatic and administrative challenges surrounding the team's participation.
