The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group announced it has lost contact with the captors holding Israeli hostage Rom Braslavski, leaving his fate uncertain. The group attributed the loss of communication to recent Israel Defense Forces operations in Deir al-Balah, an area previously avoided due to the presence of hostages. Braslavski was abducted from the Nova music festival in October 2023 and is among about 50 hostages still held in Gaza, with ongoing negotiations for their release.
The Braslavski family criticized the Israeli government for a lack of transparency and demanded direct updates from top officials, expressing frustration over the absence of information regarding Rom's condition. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum also voiced alarm over the military's actions in Deir al-Balah, urging the government to clarify the risks posed to hostages. Meanwhile, ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas continue in Qatar, with the potential release of some hostages under discussion.
