Leading US Jewish groups turn down meeting with French FM over Palestine recognition

A coalition of prominent United States Jewish organizations has declined an invitation to meet with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot after France announced plans to recognize a Palestinian state in September. In a joint statement, the groups voiced deep concern that France's decision undermines the prospects for a negotiated resolution between Israelis and Palestinians. They criticized the French government for inviting them to discuss a policy that appears already finalized and urged President Emmanuel Macron to reconsider the move. The organizations also praised the United States administration for its opposition to the French proposal, warning that France's unilateral action could embolden extremists and jeopardize Jewish security worldwide. The groups further accused Macron of abandoning previously stated conditions for recognizing Palestinian statehood, arguing that none of these prerequisites have been met and that the decision risks legitimizing terrorism.
