Albanese firmly rejected the suggestion, stating that the move is aimed at isolating Hamas and promoting peace, with Hamas having no role in a future Palestinian state. He emphasised that the recognition sends a strong message to the international community after decades of conflict and is intended to support a demilitarised Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel. Albanese also revealed recent talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stressing that military action alone cannot achieve lasting peace and that a political solution is necessary.
