The Trauma of Childhood in Gaza: No School, Few Toys, Little Hope

Children in Gaza are enduring profound trauma as the war has stripped away the normalcy of childhood. With homes destroyed and food scarce, many children like Rahma Abu Abed survive on meager meals and spend their days in displacement camps, longing for simple joys such as school and toys. The ongoing conflict has left nearly all of Gaza's children in need of mental health support, and most have been out of school for almost two years, with many schools damaged or repurposed as shelters.

The loss is not only material but deeply personal, as thousands of children have lost parents or loved ones to the violence. Stories like those of Sajed al-Ghalban, who now cares for his younger brother after losing both parents, highlight the premature responsibilities forced upon Gaza's youth. Despite occasional aid deliveries, hunger and uncertainty remain constant, and the hope for a return to normal life grows ever more distant for these children.
