IDF returns activists who crossed border aiming to establish settlement in Syria

A group of settler activists, accompanied by their children, crossed the border into Syria in an attempt to establish a new settlement. The military responded quickly, returning the group safely to Israeli territory and calling them in for police questioning. The army described the incident as a serious criminal offense that endangered both civilians and troops. The activists, identified as the Bashan Pioneers, reportedly planned to remain in Syria for an extended period and create a settlement named Nave Habashan. While support for settlements in Syria and Lebanon is limited to fringe groups, calls for new settlements in Gaza have gained traction among some far-right politicians.
