The United Nations human rights chief has accused Israel of grave violations in Gaza, warning that mounting evidence could lead to accountability before the International Court of Justice. Speaking at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Volker Türk condemned the use of genocidal rhetoric and the mass killing of Palestinian civilians, describing Gaza as a graveyard and expressing horror at the dehumanization of Palestinians by senior Israeli officials. Türk highlighted the obstruction of humanitarian aid and the commission of war crimes, stating that the rules of war are being shredded with little accountability. He called for urgent international action to halt the bloodshed and stressed the need for accountability in light of the mounting evidence of atrocities. Türk also drew attention to the crisis in Sudan, describing the suffering there as unfathomable and urging decisive measures to prevent further atrocities.
