A neighbour of Jihad Al-Shamie, the man shot dead by police after attacking worshippers at a Manchester synagogue, revealed she had previously contacted police with concerns about suspicious activity at his home during the coronavirus pandemic. She described men frequently visiting the address and expressed particular worry about a relative who became increasingly withdrawn and devout. Despite her calls to police, she said she never received a response. Greater Manchester Police stated that Al-Shamie was not known to counter terrorism authorities, though investigations into his family are ongoing. Al-Shamie, who was on police bail for a separate offence at the time of the attack, was described by locals as unfriendly and strict, with some expressing unease about his influence on relatives. The attack resulted in the deaths of two worshippers and left three others hospitalized, while four people remain in custody on suspicion of terror offences.
