NYT, Newsmax among news outlets who say they won't sign new Pentagon rules for reporters

Several major news organizations, including The New York Times, The Associated Press, Newsmax, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and Reuters, have refused to sign new press rules set by the Defense Department. These outlets argue that the policy threatens press freedoms and could punish journalists for standard reporting practices protected by the Constitution. The new rules would restrict journalists' access to the Pentagon and allow the Defense Secretary to revoke press credentials for seeking information not pre-approved for release. Pentagon officials insist the policy is about common sense procedures, but affected newsrooms are pushing back, raising concerns about transparency and public interest journalism.
