Foreign UN staff confined to Yemen compound by Houthis since Saturday

Fifteen international staff members with the United Nations have been confined to the organization's compound in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, following an incursion by Houthi authorities. While the staff are now able to move within the compound and have communicated with their families, they remain unable to leave. Five Yemeni staff detained at the same time have been released. However, another fifty-three United Nations staff members remain arbitrarily detained by the Houthis, with some held since 2021. The United Nations Secretary-General has engaged with regional leaders regarding the ongoing detentions, as concerns mount over the safety of United Nations personnel in Yemen.
