Pakistan's government has officially banned the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan party under the Anti-Terrorism Act following violent clashes between its supporters and law enforcement in Punjab. The decision, approved by the federal cabinet, comes after protests that left several dead and injured, with authorities citing the party's involvement in terrorism as grounds for the move. The party, known for its confrontational street politics and mass mobilizations since 2017, had planned a march to Islamabad in solidarity with Gaza. This is the second time the group has been banned, with a previous prohibition lifted after negotiations in 2021. Police are currently searching for the party's leader, Saad Rizvi, who went into hiding after the recent unrest.
