Turkey is actively negotiating with Qatar and Oman to acquire used Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets in an effort to strengthen its air force, according to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This move is part of a broader strategy to modernize Turkey's fleet until its domestically developed KAAN fighter jet becomes operational. In addition to talks with Gulf nations, Turkey previously signed a preliminary agreement with the United Kingdom for the purchase of Eurofighters, and is seeking to source secondhand jets to meet immediate needs.
During a recent tour of Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, Erdogan oversaw the signing of several defense-related agreements, though specific details were not disclosed. Turkey is also pursuing reentry into the F-35 fighter jet program, aiming to acquire a transitional fleet of 120 advanced jets, including Eurofighters, F-16s, and F-35s, before the KAAN jet is ready for service.
