A senior Hamas official, Khalil al-Hayya, announced that forces will enter new areas of the Gaza Strip today to search for the bodies of hostages. This follows the arrival of Egyptian forces and equipment in Gaza last night to assist in the search efforts. Al-Hayya also stated that Hamas will transfer all administrative control of the Gaza Strip, including security, to a temporary committee. Although Hamas has expressed readiness to hand over control to a committee of independent Palestinians, such a body has not yet been established.
