Likud lawmaker Yuli Edelstein has been removed from the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee following repeated violations of party discipline, including voting in favor of a West Bank settlement annexation bill that the party boycotted. Coalition whip Ofir Katz announced Edelstein's immediate removal and imposed further restrictions, barring him from introducing private legislation or speaking on behalf of the faction for two months. Edelstein was previously ousted as committee chairman after proposing a controversial enlistment bill, and concerns remained that he might oppose new draft legislation being prepared by his replacement, Boaz Bismuth. In response to Edelstein's removal, opposition leader Benny Gantz offered parliamentary support, criticizing the coalition's decision and emphasizing Edelstein's importance to the committee. The replacement for Edelstein on the committee has not yet been announced.
