A rift has emerged within the Satmar Hasidic community in New York City over which candidate to support in the upcoming mayoral election. Rabbi Moishe Indig, a leader of the Ahronim faction, met with and was expected to endorse State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, while three other leaders from the same faction publicly endorsed former governor Andrew Cuomo. The endorsements highlight deep divisions over political priorities, with some leaders warning that the progressive agenda threatens their way of life, while others are less concerned about Mamdani's anti-Israel stance due to the community's non-Zionist beliefs. Meanwhile, the Zalonim faction has chosen not to endorse any candidate, and the broader Hasidic vote remains split as the election approaches.
