Marco Rubio heads to Florida to hammer out Russia-Ukraine peace deal

President Donald Trump's top foreign policy team, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, met with Ukrainian officials in Florida to negotiate a peace deal aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. The talks focused on a 28-point plan, which Rubio emphasized should guarantee Ukraine's independence and lasting peace. Ukrainian representatives described the discussions as constructive and promising, though the proposed plan has faced criticism for being too favorable to Russia, including from members of Trump's own party.

A leaked call revealed efforts by Trump's special envoy to expedite direct communication between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin before key meetings, influencing the initial peace proposal. The Trump administration has since revised the plan, reducing it from 28 to 19 points. Trump stated that he would only meet with Zelenskyy and Putin once the deal is finalized or near completion.
