Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has selected his military secretary, Roman Gofman, as the next director of the Mossad intelligence agency. Gofman, who will succeed David Barnea in June 2026, was chosen after a series of interviews with multiple candidates. The nomination will be reviewed by the advisory committee responsible for senior appointments.
Gofman brings a wealth of operational and command experience from his service in the military, including roles as a combat soldier, battalion and brigade commander, division operations officer, and chief of staff for government activities in the territories. Netanyahu praised Gofman's professionalism, leadership, and direct involvement in military operations, especially during the recent war.
The prime minister highlighted Gofman's coordination with intelligence services and described him as creative, discreet, and deeply knowledgeable about adversaries. Netanyahu also recounted Gofman's bravery during the outbreak of war, when he was wounded while fighting in the Gaza border region. He expressed confidence that Gofman is the right choice to lead the Mossad and wished him success in his new role.
