Mayar Kabaja and Hatem Saadallah, young software engineers from Gaza, were separated by war and a closed border after Hatem evacuated to Cairo. Despite the distance and ongoing conflict, their relationship deepened as they supported each other through trauma and uncertainty. Unable to reunite in person, they married remotely on October 27, with Hatem joining the ceremony by phone while his uncle signed the marriage license on his behalf in Gaza.
Their love story began before the war, blossoming through shared experiences and late-night conversations. As war intensified, they found comfort in each other, even as Hatem lost his home and Mayar endured bombings and displacement. After their remote wedding, Mayar resumed her studies and found hope in their future plans, while Hatem prepared to move to Milan for graduate school, with the couple dreaming of a reunion and a proper celebration.
