Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the international community to pressure Afghanistan's Taliban authorities to prevent militant groups from operating across the border into Pakistan. Speaking at a forum in Turkmenistan, Sharif acknowledged the efforts of regional countries in mediating a fragile ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but warned that the situation remains unstable.
Sharif highlighted Pakistan's commitment to peaceful dispute resolution and multilateral engagement, referencing its recent election to the United Nations Security Council. He also addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza, reaffirming Pakistan's support for a lasting ceasefire and the rights of the Palestinian and Kashmiri people.
The prime minister linked peace to sustainable development, emphasizing the need for collective action against climate change, poverty, and inequality. He noted Pakistan's vulnerability to climate-induced disasters and called for fair access to technology and climate finance. The Ashgabat forum convened leaders to discuss neutrality, trust, and cooperation on global security and development issues.
