A woman is on trial accused of murdering her husband after allegedly writing 'Bye, bye' on a calendar just hours after his death. Daryl Berman, aged 71, is accused of fatally stabbing her 84-year-old husband David at their home in Greater Manchester. Initially, police accepted her claim that he had died in a tragic accident, falling onto a knife he was carrying on a lunch tray. However, suspicions grew after two post-mortems suggested the wounds were more consistent with a deliberate attack than an accident.
During the trial, Berman denied any involvement in her husband's death, describing herself as 'numb' after the incident and insisting she only wrote the calendar note after everyone had left. She recounted how David had become frail and unsteady in recent years, and claimed she simply wanted to care for him. Forensic experts gave conflicting opinions, with two pathologists stating the injuries were typical of a homicide, while a third expert said the circumstances were highly unusual and could possibly be accidental. The trial continues as Berman maintains her innocence.
