Pakistan International Airlines, recently privatized and now led by a consortium headed by Arif Habib Group, is set to expand its flights to the Gulf region and lower airfares to attract more passengers, especially those from low-income backgrounds. The new owners plan to invest significantly in upgrading the airline, including tripling its fleet and partnering with a foreign carrier, aiming for 7.5 percent annual revenue growth. PIA will focus on religious tourism and target lucrative markets in Europe and North America, with new flights resuming to London after a six-year hiatus. While initial losses are expected, the management is confident of turning the airline profitable in the medium term, building on its first pre-tax profit in nearly two decades.
