The Ministerial Committee for Legislation has moved forward with a bill that would impose a fine of approximately NIS 75,000 on individuals who block essential roads during protests. The proposed legislation targets high-traffic highways that lack alternative routes and are critical for access to public institutions or medical facilities. In cases where protesters block roads under aggravating circumstances, such as lighting bonfires, the fine could rise to NIS 226,000. The bill comes amid ongoing mass protests, including those against the government and in support of hostages, as well as demonstrations by the Haredi community. The Attorney General has expressed opposition to the bill, arguing that law enforcement already possesses sufficient authority to address road blockages.
