President Donald Trump has introduced a proposal for a new international peacekeeping body called the 'Board of Peace', which is being positioned as a potential alternative to the United Nations Security Council. The draft charter, recently circulated to prospective member countries, requires a contribution of over $1 billion for extended participation beyond an initial three-year term. Although the board was initially conceived to oversee post-war administration in the Gaza Strip, the charter omits any mention of Gaza, suggesting a much broader mandate that could encompass various global conflicts.
The board's initial executive members include prominent figures such as Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner, Ajay Banga, Steve Witkoff, Tony Blair, Marc Rowan, and Robert Gabriel. Several countries, including Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Paraguay, Argentina, and Albania, have confirmed receiving invitations to join. The move has sparked speculation about the future role and influence of the board in international diplomacy, especially given its substantial financial requirements and the involvement of high-profile leaders.
