US President Donald Trump is set to meet Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at Davos, as hopes rise for a breakthrough in ending the war in Ukraine. Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff expressed optimism, stating that negotiations have narrowed down to a single unresolved issue, with talks focusing on the future of the Donbas region and proposals for a demilitarised economic zone. Zelensky, who travelled to Davos after dealing with the aftermath of Russian strikes on Kyiv, has indicated that a US plan to end the war is nearly complete, though differences remain over control of Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. The outcome of the meeting could be pivotal, as both sides discuss security guarantees and economic recovery, but it remains uncertain whether any agreements will be signed during the World Economic Forum.
