US President Donald Trump has rescinded an invitation for Canada to join his newly formed Board of Peace, intensifying tensions between the neighboring countries. The withdrawal was announced in a post addressed to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who had recently warned of a 'rupture' in the US-led global order. Canada had also stated it would not pay to join the board, which is being promoted as a new international body for conflict resolution, although its charter does not mention the Palestinian territory and appears to challenge the role of the United Nations.
Trump did not specify a reason for revoking the invitation, and Carney's office has yet to respond. The board has extended invitations to around 60 nations, with about 35 reportedly agreeing to participate. The United Kingdom has also expressed hesitation about joining, citing concerns over possible Russian involvement.
