A remarkable collection of 681 drawings created by Jewish poet and artist Peter Kien inside the Nazi-run Theresienstadt ghetto has been deposited at the Wiener Holocaust Library in London. The artworks, hidden for decades, provide an intimate visual record of life in the ghetto, including portraits of inmates and scenes from its secret cultural activities. Kien entrusted his works to his partner, Helga Wolfenstein, before his deportation and murder at Auschwitz. After years of struggle, the collection was recently restituted to Wolfenstein's daughter, Judy King, who donated it to the library. The library plans to conserve, digitize, and share the collection, preserving rare evidence of artistic resilience during the Holocaust.
