Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, has called on European nations to intensify their support for Iranian protesters seeking to overthrow the regime in Tehran. Speaking on Holocaust Memorial Day, Goldschmidt attributed the recent surge in antisemitism across Europe to Iran's influence, warning that Jews are facing dangerous levels of hostility regardless of their connection to Israel or its government. He emphasized that criticism of Israel's actions is legitimate but cautioned that it can cross into antisemitism when it delegitimizes Israel's existence or spreads unfounded allegations. Goldschmidt also advocated for a new administration in Gaza, suggesting it be managed by Arab countries with Western oversight, and stressed that a two-state solution is unattainable while Iran continues to destabilize the region. Despite these concerns, he praised the United Kingdom for its efforts to protect Jewish communities and urged European countries to do more for those resisting the Iranian regime.
