The Israeli military has reported that around 70,000 people in Gaza have died during the Israel-Hamas conflict, while disputing claims from international organizations about the proportion of civilian casualties and deaths from starvation. According to the military, approximately 25,000 of those killed were Hamas fighters, and some deaths were caused by misfired rockets or internal executions by Hamas. The military also challenged reports of starvation deaths, attributing many such claims to pre-existing health conditions or misinformation, and stated that no healthy individuals died from starvation. Humanitarian efforts cited by the military include the delivery of over a million tons of food, medical supplies, and the operation of field hospitals, while also noting that some international aid statistics may have been exaggerated for political reasons. Leadership changes in the agency overseeing aid and coordination in the territories were also announced, amid criticism of the new appointment.
