Yona Elfassi, a native of Fez, Morocco, has dedicated his career to reviving Moroccan Jewish culture by teaching Darija, the Moroccan Arabic dialect, to Jews of Moroccan heritage around the world. Drawing from his family's multilingual and musical background, Elfassi launched Limud Darija, a multimedia language platform that connects diaspora Jews to their ancestral roots through language, music, and shared stories. The program has attracted over 500 members, fostering a sense of belonging and resilience among participants, while also inspiring Moroccan Muslims to engage with Hebrew and build bridges across communities. Through language classes, music workshops, and online communities, Limud Darija is helping to preserve a rich cultural legacy and promote dialogue, understanding, and peace on a personal level.
