Last year marked the deadliest period on record for Palestinian citizens of Israel, with 252 murders, including 23 women, and the violence shows no sign of abating. Many in the community accuse the government of neglect and even deliberate inaction, as the murder rate among Palestinian citizens is fourteen times higher than that of Jewish society, and conviction rates for these crimes remain extremely low. Mass protests and strikes have erupted, with tens of thousands demanding the government fulfill its duty to protect all citizens equally and address the root causes of crime, such as poverty, underinvestment in education, and social exclusion. Instead, recent government actions have shifted funding away from social programs toward policing, deepening distrust and alienation, and leaving the majority of Palestinian citizens trapped between rampant criminality and state indifference.
