AG: Levin has given himself veto power over judicial appointments 'out of thin air'

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has accused Justice Minister Yariv Levin of undermining the judiciary by assuming veto power over judicial appointments without legal basis. In a court filing, Baharav-Miara argued that Levin's refusal to convene the Judicial Selection Committee is harming the public by leaving dozens of judicial positions unfilled, including seats on the Supreme Court. Levin defended his actions, claiming he seeks broad consensus for appointments and blaming other committee members for the deadlock. The dispute comes amid ongoing tensions over judicial reforms and concerns about political influence over the courts.
