US plans Board of Peace meeting on Feb. 19 to fundraise for Gaza rebuild

The United States will host the first working meeting of the Board of Peace on February 19 in Washington, aiming to raise funds for rebuilding Gaza. Invitations were sent to 26 countries, but participation remains uncertain due to skepticism about the initiative's effectiveness and concerns over the involvement of Hamas and Israel's willingness to cooperate. The conference coincides with the start of Ramadan, which may affect attendance by Muslim leaders. The Board of Peace, mandated by a United Nations Security Council resolution, is tasked with overseeing Gaza's postwar management for two years, but progress has been slow, with no formal disarmament proposal presented to Hamas and difficulties in gaining Israeli cooperation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to attend the meeting, as his trip to Washington overlaps with the event, despite previous tensions over the Board's composition and his inability to attend the earlier signing ceremony in Davos.
