EU diplomats to meet Board of Peace's Mladenov over Gaza's future

The European Union's top diplomats will meet in Brussels with Nickolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza appointed to lead the Board of Peace initiative backed by United States President Donald Trump. The talks come after a cautious and sometimes divisive response within the bloc to Washington’s efforts to rebuild and administer the war-damaged Gaza Strip.

Mladenov is scheduled to meet the European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and foreign ministers from the 27 member states. In addition to Gaza, ministers are expected to address the war in Ukraine and consider new sanctions on Russia.

The question of cooperating with the Trump-backed board has exposed divisions among European capitals. While some member states have joined the initiative as full members or observers, the European Union has reiterated its support for the United Nations mandate in Gaza, highlighting differing approaches to the territory’s future governance and reconstruction.
