The Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the Knesset, describing it as an open defense of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and arguing that it has diminished India's moral standing. The party cited a historical letter written by Jawaharlal Nehru to Albert Einstein in 1947, in which Nehru expressed sympathy for both Jews and Arabs and emphasized the importance of Arab rights in the context of the creation of Israel.
Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh referred to the exchange of letters between Einstein and Nehru to underscore what the party described as a more balanced historical position on the issue. In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party rejected the criticism, saying it reflected frustration within Congress over Rahul Gandhi's declining prospects. The ruling party highlighted the standing ovation and honor received by Modi during his address, accusing Congress of attempting to tarnish India's image.
