Britain has temporarily evacuated its embassy staff from Iran, citing a deteriorating security situation as tensions escalate between Tehran and Washington. The Foreign Office said the embassy is now operating remotely and cannot provide in-person consular assistance, even in emergencies. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the United Kingdom is supporting diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran.
The United States has also authorized the departure of non-emergency government personnel and their families from Israel due to safety risks. Officials urged staff to leave while commercial flights remain available. The moves come as President Donald Trump intensifies warnings of possible military action if Iran does not agree to a new deal.
Diplomatic talks in Geneva aimed at resolving disputes over Iran’s nuclear program collapsed without agreement. Key sticking points include uranium enrichment, dismantling nuclear facilities, missile development, and Tehran’s support for militant groups. Iran has said the United States must drop what it calls 'excessive demands' to reach a deal.
Meanwhile, Washington has launched its largest military build-up in the region in decades, deploying additional warships, fighter jets, and advanced drones. Trump has stated he prefers a diplomatic solution but warned he is prepared to act militarily to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
