Constant missile fire from Iran forced residents across central Israel to repeatedly rush in and out of shelters on Saturday, after Israel and the United States launched a major attack on Iran. Sirens sounded throughout the day in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas, sending families scrambling for cover as dozens of missiles were launched and many intercepted.
In Jaffa, more than 100 people from diverse backgrounds crowded into a public shelter beneath a park, including Muslim families observing Ramadan and religious Jewish students. As night fell, some broke their daily fast inside the shelter, while others sang prayers or followed updates on their phones. Residents described exhaustion and frustration as children, elderly people, and pets endured the constant movement.
The renewed attacks highlighted long standing gaps in shelter access, particularly in poorer neighborhoods and Arab communities. While newer buildings are required to include reinforced safe rooms, many older homes lack protection against powerful ballistic missiles. Authorities placed the country on high alert, canceled schools and public gatherings, and reported several minor injuries as emergency services responded to strikes.
