Melbourne's Albert Park could host a second Formula One Grand Prix this season as the championship faces the possible cancellation of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The events, scheduled for mid to late April, are in doubt following escalating conflict in the region after United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, with missile attacks reported in both Gulf nations and travel warnings issued.
Victoria's government has indicated it would be willing to discuss staging an additional race if required, although championship officials have suggested that organizing replacement events at short notice would be logistically difficult. If both Middle Eastern rounds are cancelled without replacements, the calendar would shrink from 24 to 22 races, creating a five week gap between Japan and Miami.
Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali said safety remains the top priority and confirmed that staff were evacuated from the region as tensions intensified, with a tyre test in Bahrain among the early cancellations. A final decision on the affected races is expected soon, with officials continuing to monitor the rapidly changing situation.
