Clashes have erupted along the Lebanon-Syria border after Israeli forces reportedly attempted to land in the eastern Baalbek district, according to Lebanese state media and Hezbollah. The fighting took place near the town of Nabi Sheet, an area where Hezbollah maintains a strong presence.
Hezbollah said its fighters confronted Israeli troops who arrived by helicopter from the Syrian direction and engaged them with light and medium weapons near a local cemetery. The group claimed the confrontation intensified before Israeli forces launched heavy strikes and withdrew, with rockets fired at them during their retreat.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. The reported operation, if confirmed, would mark one of the deepest incursions into Lebanon in recent months, following escalating hostilities that have included missile fire and airstrikes. Lebanese authorities said recent Israeli strikes in the area killed at least nine people, and social media footage showed sustained gunfire during the clashes.
