Clashes erupted along the Lebanon-Syria border after Israeli forces attempted what Lebanese state media described as a landing operation near Nabi Sheet in the eastern Baalbek district. The National News Agency reported fighting in the mountainous area as Hezbollah fighters confronted the troops.
Hezbollah said its fighters observed four Israeli helicopters approaching from the Syrian direction and engaged Israeli troops with light and medium weapons after they landed near a cemetery. The group stated that the confrontation intensified, prompting Israeli forces to carry out heavy strikes before withdrawing. Hezbollah also said it fired rockets at the troops as they retreated.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. The reported operation would mark one of the deepest incursions into Lebanon in recent months, following escalating cross-border violence that began after Hezbollah launched missiles at Israel earlier in the week.
Nabi Sheet had already been targeted by multiple Israeli air strikes a day earlier, with Lebanon's health ministry reporting at least nine people killed.
