Israeli commandos reportedly carried out a nighttime operation in eastern Lebanon near the Syrian border, allegedly tied to efforts to locate the remains of missing Israeli navigator Ron Arad. Lebanese media said four military helicopters entered from Syria and deployed troops in the Bekaa Valley near the village of Nabi Sheet, close to a cemetery where searches were said to have taken place.
The operation reportedly escalated into heavy clashes after Hezbollah fighters detected the helicopters. Lebanon's Health Ministry said 29 people were killed and dozens wounded. Hezbollah claimed Israeli forces carried out about 40 airstrikes to secure their withdrawal, while artillery fire targeted the area and the alleged exit route.
Footage shared on social media showed destruction near the reported landing site and damaged vehicles close to the cemetery. Some Arab media outlets reported that Israeli troops wore Lebanese army uniforms as a disguise. Lebanese sources said the helicopters landed on a nearby mountain ridge before forces moved toward the cemetery.
Ron Arad disappeared in 1986 after ejecting from his aircraft over southern Lebanon and was captured by the Amal movement. His fate remains unresolved despite decades of investigations and operations. Lebanese reports suggested the latest mission was part of Israel's long-running effort to determine what happened to him.
